Goals of Instruction

  • Expand children’s visual vocabulary by studying shape, line, color and positive and negative space, and how these elements interact with each other to affect our senses
  • Learn composition and design techniques
  • Learn techniques in the following genres: portraiture, landscape painting, figure drawing, abstraction, still life drawing/painting, drawing from (some) nature, collage, paper mâché, and bookmaking
  • Expose Students to a variety of art-making media: pencil, charcoal, pastel, pen & ink, colored pencil, crayon, watercolor, tempera, acrylics, pastels, silk screen, as well as scissors, glue, yarn, string
  • Allow dreams to become realized
  • Develop appreciation for the works of both the masters and one’s classmates, made in many different styles
